Job Description

Breeder for Woodland, CA to lead global watermelon breeding pipeline to evaluate & advance highest performing germplasm aligned with commercial product concepts; develop, identify & implement new breeding, phenotyping and analytics strategies for seed crops; integrate data science & automation in seed crop breeding processes; lead & participate in cross-functional crop teams. Requires Ph.D. in Plant Breeding, Genetics or closely-related field & 4 yrs experience using plant breeding and quantitative genetics techniques to optimize product development and/or gene identification; working with cross-functional teams to identify, design & develop new crop breeding methodologies and/or strategies; analyzing large, complex phenotypic & genetic datasets; using SQL, AWS and/or R for database management, data analytics, and visualization; interpreting imaging data for genomic selection using R & ASREML; using remote sensing and/or automated phenotyping tools, including UAVs, to optimize crop breeding processes; using breeding technologies, including genomic selection, marker-assisted selection and/or experimental design; and conducting statistical analysis of experimental designs, including mixed model statistical analysis. Will also accept Master's in said fields & 7 yrs stated experience. Up to 30% US and int'l travel req'd. Telecommuting permitted from home office location within reasonable commuting distance of Woodland, CA up to 2 days per week. Salary Range: Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $120,000.00 to $140,000.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).
