Job Title: Research & Development Jr. Scientist - Filtration

Employment Status: Full Time

Classification: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday with occasional weekends

Reports to: R&D Supervisor

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Pay: $55,000 to $60,000/year

Location: Onsite Waupaca WI

Position Summary: The Jr. R&D Scientist plays a crucial role in providing our customers' Gusmer's trademark Service with Knowledge®. Responsible for providing technical product support through Technical Service Requests (TSRs), lab trials, field application work, and the development of new prototypes. Additionally, the position supports new project work with an emphasis on filtration for food, beverage, pharmaceuticals, and new markets.

Essential Functions:

• Conducts hands-on laboratory experiments and research under guidance from a supervisor or manager, spending most work hours in the lab.

• Supports new product and process ideas by assisting product development efforts including experiment preparation, ensuring all necessary materials and equipment are ready.

• Follows, writes, and revises standard operating procedures (SOP). Provides concise written reports for project updates and detailed final reports reviewed by the manager.

• Supports the setup, maintenance, and calibration of incoming and outgoing equipment, R&D support equipment, and test systems.

• Collaborates with the others on customer test requests, quality testing, research projects, complaint investigations, and field application work for Gusmer's market.

Other Duties

• Participates in market team idea generation meetings as assigned.

• Attends and participates in trade shows and conferences as assigned.

• Assists with hands on product training efforts as needed.

• Supports the planning and hosting of technical product workshops or webinars.

• Supports with any other technical services initiatives as required.

• Performs other Research & Development Jr. Scientist – Filtration duties as assigned.

Experience and Education Requirements

• Bachelor of Science or technical degree in chemistry, material science, engineering, microbiology, or a related field with hands-on experience laboratory experience or related experience.

• At least one year of prior lab industry experience preferred

• Basic project management skills preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's) Required

• Knowledge of experimental design.

• Knowledge of laboratory equipment operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.

• Working knowledge of algebra and statistics.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.

• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

• Ability to self-motivate and work with direct supervision.

• Ability to multi-task and work in an organized manner.

• Ability to write scientific reports.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other computer programs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include visual acuity sufficient to read a computer screen and paper documents. Acute hearing is necessary for phone and in-person communication with fellow employees and other contacts.

Working Conditions

This position typically functions in a combination of lab and office environments. There is possible travel to other sites and customer locations. There will be exposure to moderate noise levels, fumes, dust, chemicals, heat/cold, allergens, and travel environments. Conducts and oversees hands-on laboratory experiments and research, spending most work hours in the lab.
